Radial brick terrace, cobble edge
Reclaimed Brick Terrace
The brief
A waterside property where a rectangular terrace would have fought the shape of the yard. The terrace was set out on a curve instead, in reclaimed brick, to sit with the age of the building.
The site
Open, exposed and close to water, so the edge restraint had to be substantial rather than plastic. Granite cobble was set as a hard edge on the open side, with the terrace pitched to shed away from the building.
What we built
- Reclaimed brick terrace laid in running bond with a radial soldier border defining the curve
- Granite cobble edge restraint set on the open side
- Full-depth compacted base with the curve cut and held before laying began
- Joints swept and compacted
